Goodbye Chiang Mai

Well, we’ve just completed our time in Chiang Mai – staying again at ‘Give me 5 Hostel’, in a great private room for NZ$36 per night.

We took the final few days of our time to have a rest and plan out our path over the next 6 months. This planning was necessary because China was one of our upcoming countries on our itinerary (July). Although the Chinese borders are open there is limited availability of hostels in the country and as such we are deferring our visit. As such are upcoming sequence of countries is now Laos, Thailand, Taiwan (Bex joins us), India, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

To aid our weary bones we couldn’t pass over the opportunity for us to get a massage – Helena opted for a ‘Head, Shoulders and Back’ massage and Alan decided on ‘Neck, Shoulders and Feet’ that costs 250 Baht (NZ$11.96) each for 1 hour.

However, we couldn’t stay still all the time and still went out and visited a few of the remaining temples including Wat Phra Singh, Wat Chiang Man and Wat Sri Suphan. Just to ‘rub it in’ Alan had to advise Helena how beautiful the Silver Temple was inside (this did cost him 40 Baht entry fee), as only men could enter, although Helena found some free wifi instead. Plus, or course we took the opportunity to add another visit to a waterfall for good measure.

So, we’ve said goodbye to an amazing Chiang Mai (and the wonderful staff at ‘Give me 5’) and the 3 hour bus ride on the ‘Green Bus’ has been completed and we are now in Chiang Rai.
